Chimborazo is the highest mountain in the Ecuador and due to its close proximity to the equator it is also the furthest point from the centre of the Earth. Climbing Chimborazo is challenging to even the most skilled mountaineer, as it is a technical climb that requires very good physical condition to cover the 1300-meter altitude difference between the Whymper Refuge and the summit.
Day 1: Drive from Riobamba to Estrella del Chimborazo Base Camp, located in the Totorillas Valley at 4,000 meters. In the afternoon we will trek in the area where llamas and alpacas live. Overnight in tents.
Day 2: Free morning for acclimatization at camp. After lunch, ascension to Whymper Hut. We also offer our clients the possibility to ascend to the mountain directly from the base camp starting at night to avoid the conditions of the hut which are not optimal for proper relaxation before the climb.
Day 3: Day of ascension following the Whymper Route. Starting the previous night the climb would be completed in 8 to 10 hours. Return to Riobamba.
