
Shiripuno Amazon Lodge is a new touristic facility in the Amazon rainforest. Its remote location in the pristine tropical rainforest provides an extraordinary opportunity for birding, natural history excursions and nature explorations. The lodge, with its comfortable, clean, environmentally harmonious accommodation and dedicated staff, will be your home base for unforgettable expeditions. The lodge is adjacent to the Shiripuno Research Center, the most remote biological station in the Ecuadorian Amazon Basin. The lodge offers visitors range natural history excursions led by experienced tour guides. These experts and guides from the Huaorani community. Shiripuno Amazon Lodge is located in the Pastaza and Orellana province, 75 km south from Coca on the Auca road to the Shiripuno River.
FEATURES
The Cabins Shiripuno has been built with typical materials of the zone to give a perfect harmony with the surroundings, using traditional techniques with the less impact in nature.
The cabins are furnished with both single and double beds, accommodate up to three people in one room, all room have private bathrooms and hammocks. The total capacity is for 24 passengers.

ITINERARIES
Magic Canopy

DAY 01. Quito – Coca by airplane. From Coca, we will travel south by small pick-up or bus to Shiripuno Bridge (approximately 3 hours). Lunch. We will take a motorized canoe downstream to the Shiripuno Amazon Lodge, which is at 210 meters above sea level. The ride will take approximately 4 hours. Along the way you will be introduced to the wide diversity of wildlife in the rainforest. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 02. Breakfast. We will hike (3-4 hours) in the primary forest on the Magic Canopy Trail, where we will enjoy a scenic view of the Amazon Basin at 310 meters above sea level. The Huaorani and naturalist guide enlighten you on the biodiversity of the rainforest and the medicinal plants that local people use. These hikes require that you be in good physical condition. Lunch. In the afternoon, there will be piranha fishing in the Shiripuno River. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 03. Breakfast we will go to an oxbow lake where it is possible to see many different kinds of plants and animals. Lunch. In the afternoon we will take the motorized canoe onto a small river where there is a variety of bird’s species, including the bizarre looking Hoatzin. Dinner. After dark, there will be an excursion to explore forest night life and to look for caiman. Lodging.
DAY 04. Breakfast. We will navigate upstream to the Huaorani community (Neoneno), where you can learn about the traditions and customs of its people. Lunch. We’ll continue the navigation upstream to the bridge where we will board the bus back to Coca.

El Saladero

DAY 01: Quito-Coca by airplane. From Coca, we will travel south by small pick-up or bus to Shiripuno Bridge (approx. 3 hours). Lunch. We will take the motorized canoe downstream to the Shiripuno Amazon Lodge, which is at 210 meters above sea level. DAY 03: Birdwatching (05:45 optional). Breakfast. We will hike on the El Saladero Trail where you will discover the rich variety of plants and trees along the way, and have the chance to see animals at clay licks. Box lunch. In the afternoon, we will hike back to the campsite. After dark, there will be an excursion to explore forest night life and to look for caiman. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 04: Breakfast. We will go to the oxbow lake where there is a variety of species of plants and animals. Lunch. In the afternoon, we will take the motorized canoe and to a small river where there are many different species of birds, including the bizarre looking Hoatzin. Dinner and Lodging.
DAY 05: Breakfast. We will travel to the Huaorani Community (Neoneno), where you will learn about the traditions and customs of its people. Lunch. We will continue navigation upstream to the bridge where we will board the bus back to Coca (arrival at 17:30 approx.).

Shiripuno Birding

At Shiripuno Amazon Lodge is where birding takes different dimensions: the core of the Amazonian avifauna in Ecuador. is right here. Rare birds, abundance numbers of mixed flock everywhere, typical antbirds, woodcreepers, curassaws, 6 species of manakins in a single trail, our trails are flat in most of the cases and warn lunch in the forest.

We will take the motorized canoe downstream to our campsite. The journey of about 4 hours offers sittings of Blue-and-Yellow Macaw, White-throated Toucan, Black-capped Donacobious, Common Piping Guan and others. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 02: Breakfast. We will wander along the primary forest trail network behind the Lodge and look for Army Ant Specialists, such as the Lunulated Antbird, White-plumed Antbird, and Sooty Antbird, and visit the different territories of the rare Wing-banded Antbird. There will also be time to observe Striped Manakin. Lunch. We will visit an oxbow lake and search for the White-lored Antpitta. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 03: Breakfast. We will birdwatch along the trail to the Magic Canopy Trail, where there is a good chance of encountering the Cinereous Mourner, Rufous-tailed Antwren, Coraya Wren, Blue-backed Manakin, and when we reach the top, we will enjoy a scenic view of the Amazon Basin at 310 meters above sea level Lunch in the forest. We will continue our birding expedition down to the river. Breakfast. Our next birding day will be on El Misterioso Trail, an ornithologist’s dream come true, containing many mixed flocks, including the Yasunì Antwren, Red-billed Scythebill, Rio Suno Antwren, Ruddy Foliage-gleaner and others that will keep us busy the entire day as we add more species to our list. Lunch in the forest.
DAY 04: Breakfast. Our next birding day will be “El Misterioso Trail” a good birding trail with a lot of mixed flock with Yasuní Antwren, Red-billed Scythebill, Rio Suno Antwren, Ruddy Foliage-gleaner and others, that will keep us busy the entire day as we add more species to our list. Lunch in the forest.
DAY 05: Breakfast. Birdwatching along Skutch Trail in search of the Ochre-striped Antpitta, Ocellated Woodcreeper, Spotted Puffbird and others. Lunch in the Lodge. We will check for some of the vicinity species that we missed earlier.
DAY 06: Breakfast. Birding along the river to the El Saladero Trail, which leads to the forest clay lick where it may be possible to spot the Scarlet Macaw, Orange-cheeked Parrot, and Scarlet-shouldered Parrotlet. Lunch in the forest.
DAY 07: Breakfast. We will travel to the Huaorani Community of Neoneno, where you can learn about the traditions and customs of its people. Lunch. We will continue upstream to the bridge where we board the bus back to Coca (arrival at 16:30 approx.).
