Avenue of the volcanoes
This part of the country offers some of the loveliest mountain sceneries in Ecuador, and was named "the avenue of the volcanoes" by the German Explorer Alexander Von Humboldt, and it is easy to see why. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Trust site, is the colonial centre, where pastel-colored houses and ornate churches line a warren of steep and narrow streets. Here you can wander up and down a maze of steep cobbled streets as you admire the stunning colonial architecture.
