Avenue of the volcanoes
This part of the country offers some of the loveliest mountain sceneries in Ecuador, and was named "the avenue of the volcanoes" by the German Explorer Alexander Von Humboldt, and it is easy to see why. An impressive roll call of towering peaks lines the route south: Cotopaxi, the Illinizas, Tungurahua, Carihuairazo and Chimborazo, to name but a few.
Guayaquil & the sun's way
The southern coastal plains are the agro-industrial heartland of Ecuador. Rice, sugar, coffee, African palm, mango, cacao, shrimp and especially bananas are produced in these hot and humid lowlands and processed or exported through Guayaquil, the largest and most dynamic commercial centre in the country. All those facts, make this zone a paradise of natural beauty, diversity and rich cultural heritage.
Quito & Northern Andes
Few cities have a setting to match that of Quito, the second highest capital in Latin America. It is a city with many facets. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Trust site, is the colonial centre, where pastel-colored houses and ornate churches line a warren of steep and narrow streets. Here you can wander up and down a maze of steep cobbled streets as you admire the stunning colonial architecture.
